Overview showing the principle of production of renewable chemicals from carbon dioxide, water and sunlight in genetically modified cyanobacteria.

Metabolic engineering of cyanobacteria

Our current research interests are in the field of metabolic engineering of cyanobacteria with a focus on biofuels. The aim of the work in our group is development of a microbial system for carbon neutral production of fuels and other useful compounds. In the course of this work, we are also investigating the native metabolism of the cyanobacterial model organisms, especially pathways that may be useful for hydrocarbon production.
